As I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, when I joined the BzzAgent site I was invited to participate in my first BzzCampaign with got2b. Within a few days, I received my first product to try: got2b Smooth Operator Smoothing Lustre Lotion. I finally tried it out, and wanted to share my thoughts with you, dear reader.

Photo from drugstore.com - I'm not an affiliate there, I just like the site a lot.

From the BzzCampaign invitation: Lusciously decadent göt2b smooth operator smoothing lustre lotion shapes, smoothes, controls fly-aways and gives your hair an amazing weightless lustre that’s touchably soft. And now it’s reformulated with an indulgent cashmere infusion, it’s softer and smoother than ever.

And the got2b website describes the product as such: Don’t cheat your hair – give it the royal treatment with got2b smooth operator smoothing lustre lotion. This decadent lotion shapes, imparts an amazing weightless lustre and softness. Protects against damage from heat styling and contains a UV protectant.

With phrases like “controls fly-aways” (without product, my hair can be kinda fuzzy), “touchably soft” (who likes crunchy hair?), “cashmere infusion” (umm…) and “protects against damage from heat styling,” I was excited to try this out. I’d seen got2b products at the store, but hadn’t really looked at them very closely. Let’s be real: I’m in my mid-30s. I’m not exactly got2b’s target audience.

What I liked about it: It really does tame fly-aways; I have fine, mostly straight, chin-length hair and used a spot no bigger than a quarter. When I dried my hair on high heat, my hair was probably as smooth as it’s ever been. And my hair was definitely not crunchy, so bonus points there!

What I didn’t like: I disagree that the softness was “weightless.” The lotion just felt kind of thick on my hair, and it actually took a really long time for my hair to dry after putting it in. Maybe I’m just not used to this type of product (I usually use mousses, spray gels, and other volumizing-types), but I felt like it kind of held me down a little too much. I tried using less of the product, but it felt the same regardless of how much (or how little) I used.

Overall: I definitely don’t think this is a bad product; I just don’t think it’s the right one for me (especially given that I’m usually looking for volume). I’m guessing if you have thick hair that’s on the frizzy side, though, that this would work great. Or, if you want a really smooth look – definitely give this a try. It’s definitely a good product with quality ingredients, and I think I’ll still use it every now and then – but in general, this one was a miss for me.

got2b’s products can be found at drugstores nationwide, or you can also buy them at drugstore.com where it looks like they’re on sale right now! Bonus!

Full disclosure: I am a BzzAgent and received samples, coupons and a free bottle of got2b smooth operator in exchange for sharing my opinion about and samples of the product. The opinions expressed are my own. You have been warned.

I’ve just this year really started to get serious about taking diligent care of my skin. Once I noticed sun spots that weren’t there before and wrinkles getting deeper I had to do something.

I’ve always been the lazy type when it came to skin care and I shamefully admit going to bed numerous times without even swiping a wet cloth over my face. Until now.

I was determined to get serious about my skin and so I bought the Olay Definity 14 day Skin Rehabilitation Kit to kick start my new routine. My reasoning was that this was a 14 day kit, so I would be more likely to not shrug it off if I was too tired to wash my face {see, lazy}. I’d hate skipping a day.

A description of the product from Olay: Olay Definity 14 day skin rehabilitation counteracts past skin stresses to diminish discoloration PLUS wrinkles in just 14 days. Time; stress and the environment – especially the sun – can really take a toll on your skin. Introducing Olay Definity 14 Day Skin Rehabilitation. A total anti-aging skin immersion that detoxifies; recovers; and revives skin’s appearance in just 14 days. Total skin immersion hydrates and immediately diminishes the appearance of age spots and wrinkles. Skin will emerge with a more flawless luminosity and diminished look of discoloration in just 14 days.

The kit comes with 13 mini tubes of product and a mask. The first seven days are Step 1, Detox. The next six days are Step 2, Recover and the last day is Step 3, which is the reviving mask.

Nothing too remarkable happened during the first week, but I liked the feel of the treatments on my skin. It felt very hydrated. The treatments for Step 2 felt even more amazing on my skin and had a nice pleasant scent. I started to notice my skin was brighter and my sun spots had faded slightly.

The kicker for me on this kit was the mask. I’ve never really been a fan of masks because I’m slightly claustrophobic, but putting mind over matter I stuck it out. Its a cloth mask that stretches to fit your face. They instruct you to leave it on for at least 15 minutes but you can wear it longer if you like. I left mine on for twenty and was surprised at how the mask stayed cool the whole time. It never heated up to my body temperature, which I liked. I peeled the mask off and rubbed the remaining serum on my face into my skin as instructed. Once it was absorbed my skin felt like a baby’s bottom. So smooth, definitely brighter and the texture was really nice.

I was so impressed I even took a photo for ya’ll. {This is a huge deal considering I hate to be seen without makeup, but I did it for you! }

This kit can be used every 3 months so I’ll more than likely use this kit again. I love the way my skin felt and looked afterward and being a 14 day kit gave me a sense of strict regimen. As for the claims on the product, I did notice that my sun spots were lighter, my skin was brighter and the texture was more even. However, I didn’t notice much improvement on my deep wrinkles {expression lines}, but I’m not sure anything but fillers would make those disappear.

Disclaimer: This post was not sponsored by Olay. I purchased this product with my own money and my opinion on this product is my own as well. However, the link I’ve included to the product is an affiliate link. Feel free to use it or not.

My friend, who happens to be a Mary Kay Director, invited me to be a model for a demonstration of the new Spring colors and several other MK newbies. As always, I enjoy her company and, of course, I love to try out new trends and breakthrough skin care. I took along a good friend that evening and made it a “girl’s night out” for the two of us.

Among the tantalizing Spring products are two new cheek glazes, tangerine and pomegranate ($16.00), several new lip nectars, Mango, Coconut, and passion fruit ($13.00), and my favorite, the limited edition Creme Highlighter ($14.00). I was supplied with not only the opportunity to try these products at the demo meeting but was given several complimentary samples to use at home.

I’m really enjoying the Cheek Glaze, as it goes on smoothly and lasts for most of the day (as long as I don’t touch my face too much). The natural “blush” it gives is just the thing for the upcoming softer, feminine trends in fashion and makeup. As with the Cheek Glaze, the Lip Nectar offers a soft addition to your warmer weather makeup palette. The Coconut especially is one that varies in tone depending on your own lip color. It was interesting to see how different it looked on everyone who tried it that night. Being able to try-before-you-buy has always been a benefit to buying cosmetics through Mary Kay’s independent beauty consultants.

The product that impressed me the most was the Creme Highlighter. I’m always looking for an eyeshadow, blush, or luminous bronzer type product to highlight various areas on my face and shoulders. Well, I think I found it in this Mary Kay limited edition! That night I used it in my brow bone area and the inner corners of my eyes and found it to create just the right amount of shimmer and light reflection without looking cheap or “teenager-ish”.

A Couple More Impressive Items

I also wanted to let you know that the eye shadows go on smooth as silk but even more so with the addition of their Eye Primer ($12.00). I have never been a primer user, but after experiencing the difference in application and wearability, I think I’ve been converted.

I was also given a nice sized sample of the Time Wise® Replenishing Serum+C. I’ve added to my regular skin care regimen for a couple of weeks now and have felt a distinctive toning of the lax areas of my face (you know those small crepey lines that drive you crazy). Now, keep in mind, I am a serum user, so this is a necessary beauty item that you won’t find me without. I’ve used some really goods, too. So far the MK has not let me down. We’ll see how it does as I continue to use up my free sample. Cheers to all you chic ladies out there!

If you would like more information about the new Spring colors or any other Mary Kay product, please visit Paula Kirkpatrick online at her wonderful Mary Kay site. if you don’t have your own consultant.

Last October was one of those times.

I’d done it before with much success, so I wasn’t really concerned that anything bad would happen. Well, at first it was great; I was using good products, staying away from the flat iron, and being as gentle as I could; however, by the time my roots grew enough to need a touch up, the rest of my plat locks were in serious trouble. Breaking, lackluster, frizz…HELP!

My beautiful daughter is currently training to become a hair stylist and a fabulous one at that! It was her first time to do a platinum root job. She admitted that she was a little nervous about it. We were in the professional supply store and got all the goods we needed for the job. At the check out, the clerk handed me a small vial (free sample) of Pearatin Fortifying Repairative Serum She swore that the creatine, keratin protein-based product was what I needed to get my hungry hair back in shape. Well, she was ever so right! Go smart sales lady!

The rich serum is so concentrated that I still have a quarter of it left; I got the .5 oz sample more than 2 months ago. I’ve actually changed my color since then! I’ve used hair serums before but found them to make my hair feel greasy. Pearatin doesn’t do that at all. I suppose that’s because it is penetrating the hair cuticle like it should; it’s getting to the core where it can make a difference in the structure of the hair. I’ve had no breakage or frizziness since I’ve been using it! Happiness!

The product is time released so it keeps working all day as you are exposed to sun, wind, and other environmental do-wreckers. It is also formulated so you can reapply at any time to wet or dry hair…convenience that I like. It’s perfect for use as a heat shield (that reminds me of the reentry scene from Apollo 13…sorry) from flat irons and other appliances. And though I don’t recommend that someone with heavily colored or processed hair use that kind of heat often, I will say that the Pearatin gives great protection and a nice shine when all is said and done.

Unfortunately, I did not find the Loma company listed at cosmeticsdatabase.com (product hazard rating site), so I am unable to tell you about the exact make up of Pearatin. I do know that it’s free of parabens and formaldehydes though…a good thing for those of you who are health-conscious. Also, “Loma began in 1990 with a vision by founder David Hanen whose intent was to develop a naturally-based hair care line for the spa and salon industry.” With that ideal behind his products, it sounds like they are likely as hazard-free as they can be with having a shelf life. You can read more about the Loma company and their products at Lomaforhair.com.

I can get my Pearatin from my lovely daughter, but just in case you don’t have your own personal supply line, you can get Pearatin Fortifying Repairative Serum 3.4 oz (NEW PACKAGING) on Amazon or from your local salon. As for me, I’m loving my hair-savior! And, just in case you were curious about my present hair color…it’s chocolate brown with caramel highlights! Until next time, here’s to healthy hair!

BTW, I was not compensated for my honest opinion of this product. I am, however, an Amazon Associate, so if you choose to plunk around on those links up there, and decide to purchase the Pearatin, I might get enough pocket change to get my favorite beauty magazine. Cheers!

I just so happened to receive the Chocolate Lovers variety of Joyful Girl Natural’s Organic Body Butter for Valentine’s Day. And, let me tell you, it’s the absolutely best cocoa product I’ve ever used! I’ve tried many body butters and cremes that have been scented with chocolate, and the disappointment always comes pretty much as soon as I apply it to my skin and get a whiff of the fake, cheap smell. Not this time!

The rich cocoa, shea, and mango butter-based creme is thick and rich like body butters you’d find in an upscale spa (did I say rich. No, really, it’s beyond RICH)! Your skin receives it with pure joy (at least mine does), and the moisture-giving properties to such a bio-pure product are endless. Joyful Girl Naturals throws in some Sweet Almond Oil, Rice Bran Oil, Organic Beeswax, and a dose of Vitamin E. What more can you ask for? Just a couple of things if you want it to be the best chocolate body butter you’ve ever used. How about some Organic Cocoa Powder? And, are you ready for this?Cocoa Absolute! Just in case you don’t know what that is, the pure essential oil runs about $60 for 15ml. Didn’t I tell this product is special?

10 Reasons To Buy This Chocolate Body Butter

1. The smell alone is almost as satisfying as actually eating chocolate…just in case you’re on a diet.

2. If your significant other is a chocolate fan, you’ll get SO much more attention after slathering your entire body with it.

3. You’ll receive the cocoa’s anti-oxidants through your skin.

4. All the chocolate lovers in your office will suddenly fawn over you. It’s your chance to get that extra vacation and raise.

5. It’s a bargaining tool with the kids. Trust me; they’ll want some and will be willing to do manual labor for it. (Results may vary.)

6. You’ll be supporting a small business owned by a woman. Just say NO to the big boys!

7. Your skin will be softer, more radiant, and thank you for the all-natural treat.

8. You can put a scoop in your bath for a sweet aromatherapy experience that softens your skin at the same time.

9. It makes a perfect gift for just about anyone who loves chocolate!

10. It’s only $9.95 for 2 ounces of heaven.

Now for the warnings…just a few.

• You might experience random strangers coming up to you wondering what delectable dessert your hiding under your shirt.

• It might actually cause chocolate cravings…you might want to have a couple of pieces ready just in case.

• You could be licked to death by your dog or your husband…

• Don’t get a spoon and devour the entire jar even though it smells like chocolate icing….though it wouldn’t hurt you in the least, it’s best left for the skin, oh, and the lips. I couldn’t resist the temptation to taste it….what? It smells so good I couldn’t help it! You’ll understand when you get your own jar.

Hi everyone!! I’m Cheryl, aka TidyMom. I’m a 40-something {stay at home} mom to two beautiful daughters, 22 and 13. We closed a family retail business in July ‘08, since then I became a SAHM and my make-up routine has become much more simplistic/minimal. On my blog TidyMom, I share my passions of baking, photography and being a mom….along with my tidiness obsession. I’ve been blogging for Chic Critique every otherTuesday for about nine months now.

(I actually cleaned out my box just for you!) I like to keep all of my make-up in this great Caboodles train case. I’ve had this one for years and it has held up great to daily use. I like to be able to SEE everything, without dumping it all out on the bathroom counter.

I’m just going to touch on the items I use the most and really love!

About a year ago I discovered Everyday Minerals make up. It was my first experience with mineral make up. Everyday Minerals is great……..they offer (limited) free samples or you can purchase samples for $2.50 each. Their shipping is very inexpensive and fast!! I can’t say enough good things about this line!!…..Their samples are nice size too, they last me several weeks to a few months.

FACE:

Everyday Minerals that I use most every day:

Fair Medium Matte Foundation

Weekend Getaway Matte Blush

Natural Reflections Fair loose powder

I have to say…..making the switch to mineral foundation gives me the coverage I want/need with out that “heavy make-up” feel

I also use Barminerals Mineral Vale as a translucent “finishing touch”. I have used it for years, for a loose powder (I don’t like pressed powder)…..I only switch between it and the everyday minerals basically because EM is cheaper.

I have Clinque’s Rich Plum blush that I use quite often (it’s more pink than the EM blush)- but it has been discontinued, so I’m going to need to find a new pink blush

EYES

I LOVE Urban Decay eyeshadow primer! I don’t use this everyday, just when I’m going out – but it sure does make my eye make up go on better and stay put! You can see where I talked about my love for this product on my blog in this post.

I line my eyes everyday and have found Rimmel’s Jet Black Kohl pencil works best for me – I do line my eyes every day.

Mascara is another must for me – I flip back and forth from my always faithful pink & green Maybelline Great Lash in Very Black…..and my new found love, CoverGirl’s Exact Eyelights in black sapphire (you can ready my CC review on it here)

I always curl my lashes before adding mascara!

Eyeshadow…..is my nemisis. I have a hard time finding eyeshadow that looks great on me, so I have a lot of eyeshadows……..nothing I’m TOTALLY crazy about, but currently I’m happy enough with Clinique’s 101 Teddy Bear shadow (which is apparently now discontinued also! ARGH!)

I don’t like frosty eyeshadow. I think, at 44, frosty just doesn’t look good any more – so I like a nice flat shadow, which apparently is hard to find (half my problem), the other problem is I can’t find a way to apply shadow on my… ahem… aging eyes that looks good. If anyone has any tips, I’d love to hear them! I’m also on the look out for a gray matte shadow……I’m growing tired of the browns.

Lips!

My favorite “I wear it every day no matter what because I hate naked lips”……is

Maybelline Superstay Lip Color in either Mauve(785) or Plum(755). This lip color goes on like a paint and comes with a moisturizing stick and it really does stay on most of the day!

If I leave the house, I ALWAYS put lip gloss on over it, just because I like the glossy look – I have SEVERAL, but mostly all clear, like Cotton Candy Liplicious from Bath & Body Works or with a plumper, one of my favorites being Very Voluptuous™ Lip Plumper from Victoria Secret.

Ok, now I have to tell you about 2 more products that I LOVE but I don’t wear every day, but do wear if I want to make an impression!

The Present Clear Powder Makeup by Philosophy- this stuff is a DREAM! It gives you that “perfect, airburshed skin” look and doesn’t look cakey at ALL. I rub just a little all over when I’m finished with all of my make up…no more undesirable shine.

Sephora’s Perfessional Perfection Makeup Base – this evens and smooths the skin prepping for a flawless application of foundation. It adds a bit of a glow under foundation and makes my foundation go on smooth.

WOW…….so I had a lot more to talk about than I thought I would! LOL

Hi! I’m Kristin. I’m a shopping obsessed mom of three and part-time Realtor in North Carolina. I enjoy blogging here at Chic Critique every other Thursday, and you can also find me here.

I love beauty products, but I don’t love spending a lot of money on them. Since I love trying new things, the cosmetics in my bag are constantly changing. Even my actual bag is constantly changing.

Here’s the bag I recently switched to. Nice and roomy, and I only paid a few dollars for it at Ross. (Dontcha just LOVE Ross??)

Here’s the one I was using before that. It was a freebie from Clinique. They give away the cutest bags!

Before that, it was a cute little red Vera Bradley bag.

I’ll admit, when I told my husband that I was about to snap pictures of my make -up, he asked, “Are you SURE you want to take pictures of that?” He was right. So I will tell you that yes, I did clean my stuff up before showing you!

And now for the cast of characters:

Noah’s Naturals Milk Cleanser face wash.

Clinique’s Dramatically Different moisturizer. I wait until Clinique has their free gifts to buy other products, and I seem to never run out of the moisturizer from the free giveaways!

Burt’s Bees Royal Jelly Eye Creme

Burt’s Bees Naturally Ageless Intensive Repairing Serum

Burt’s Bees Cuticle Cream and Hand Salve. I like to rub these in while I’m doing make-up. My hands and nails always seem so dry after a shower.

I don’t know about where you are, but here in Indiana it’s been pretty cold for the past few weeks.

Inevitably, at this time of year, people always ask how I keep my skin looking so smooth and non-flaky when the weather is so bitterly cold.

Enter the Vanicream skin care line.

This line has products that contain no dyes, fragrance, lanolin, or paraben – which are found in many commonly available skin care lines.

To combat dry winter skin, I use Vanicream Moisturizing Skin Cream.

This cream takes some getting used to – especially for your face.

It is thick, really thick. I put a drop of the cream on my fingertip to show you how thick it was, but that doesn’t photograph very well. Suffice it to say, I can walk around with a drop on my fingertip and it’s so thick it won’t even run off.

A drop is literally all you need – so the tube above usually lasts me a minimum of 4-5 months.

Compared to other face products, this one takes a minute to absorb. I usually put it on my face, style my hair, and then go back and put on my makeup.

At first it feels a bit greasier than other products – but it does absorb completely in a few minutes.

The only problem I have ever had with this product was that it’s not easy to find. I order mine on Drugstore.com but it has recently become available at most Walgreens in the larger pump size.

Hope the weather isn’t too cold where you are today. Stay warm!

(FYI: I was neither compensated nor gifted free product for this review.)

Lisa Hoffman won my loyalty with a Vitamin A&C Serum that not only does a fabulous job at feeding my skin with its silky, antioxidant infused formula but is compatible with my other skin care line (Aveda).

I’m even more thrilled that I’ve used the same bottle from that prize package I won almost 9 months ago. Because you only use a miniscule amount with each application, it lasts…and lasts. I’ve been on the Lisa Hoffman site and realized that the 1 oz bottle of serum sells for $95 – probably more than I would spend normally. But, if it lasts for 9 months, that’s about $10.56 a month. For the clarity, smoothness, and youthful glow that it gives…worth every penny.

Here’s another thing that sold me on this product: Lisa Hoffman offers all military families a 50% discount on products purchased from the website. To me, that’s a true gift. I have a daughter and son in-law in the Navy, so I appreciate any company who gives to our troops. Let us know if you have used any of the Lisa Hoffman products. Please share your experience! Cheers!

My cousin Angie (an AVON rep) saw my post here on Chic Critique a few months back about the MAC Paint Pot and emailed me about trying the ANEW Eye Lifting Serum Shadow.

Ok, so what does AVON claim this will do? In a clinical study it was found that over 75% of women showed a reduction in fine wrinkling after 8 weeks.

My eyelids don’t have too much wrinkling in them just yet (thankfully, although I know it’s bound to happen) so I can’t attest to that.

However, this serum shadow is a great base for powdered shadow, just as Angie said. You can also wear alone for a sheer shimmery look on days you don’t feel like messing with powdered shadow.

I requested the color Mint because I thought maybe the green would help cancel out the redness in my lids. It didn’t, but I wouldn’t consider that a con. In fact, if you like to wear green shadows, the Mint color would probably help them stand out even more. If you are looking for a color to compliment any shade or to wear alone, you could try Luminescence or Golden.

Some things I learned as I tested this out:

Don’t put on too much or it gets cakey.

Don’t put on too little or it doesn’t work as well.

Put on just enough (you’ll be able to tell pretty quickly with trial and error like I did) and allow to dry (takes maybe a minute) before applying your powder shadows over it.

VOILA, perfect eyeshadow with no creasing, all day!

This product normally retails for $10.00 but is on sale right now for $8.00! That’s half the price of a MAC Paint Pot for you Frugalistas out there. If you’d like to try it for yourself you can shop here on Angie’s website!

Disclaimer: Angie sent me a tube of the serum shadow for free in exchange for an honest review on my blog. I’m sharing it here with you as well.
