The One Where Becky Talks About Hair Removal

in Hair Removal

I can’t believe I’m about to write about this since my co-workers and male family members read this (*HI EVERYONE!*) – but it’s summer. It needs to be discussed.

Hair removal. Specifically, you know, down THERE hair removal. The only thing more horrifying than actually putting *on* the bathing suit is the, uh, grooming that’s necessary to allow that to happen; I’m here to tell you about an awesome combo that I’ve recently discovered to make it easy, pain-free, and completely effective. (You’ll have to take my word on it, though, because there will be no photo proof!)

The first step is Nair Sensitive Formula Gel Cream.

Step 1 - who wears short shorts? NOT ME!

Step 1 - who wears short shorts? NOT ME!

Before showering, I slather on a very thick layer. The bottle says it works in as little as three minutes, but to leave it on no longer than 10. So, I split the difference and usually leave it on for about seven minutes. Then I hop in the shower, use a washcloth to wipe off the cream, and go about my day. Seriously. It’s THAT easy.

Although I think the Nair is gentle enough to use by itself, I have pretty sensitive skin so I follow it with a thick layer of Bikini Zone Medicated Gel.

Step 2 - smooth sailing!

Step 2 - smooth sailing!

This stuff is magic, for real. It removes any bumps that may have formed, and leaves my skin super smooth.

These products are a little pricier than some of the other hair removal products on the market, but in my opinion they are 100% worth it. I’ve tried some of the cheaper kinds and they tend to leave chemical burns on my sensitive skin - sexy, yes? So if you have skin issues like I do, believe me when I say this is $15 well-spent for a hair-free summer.

Now, where’d I put that sunscreen? It’s pool time!

I’ll admit that I’m obsessed with hair removal – I started saving up for laser hair removal at the tender age of 16. The good news is that I will never again have to shave, wax, or nair my bikini zone. I loved going to the beach over Memorial Day and just not worrying about hair removal at all. Pricey? Yes. Worth it? YES.

I HAVE ALWAYS WONDERED IF THET WORKED. I WOULD LOVE TO GET IT DONE MYSELF HOW MANY TREATMENTS DID YOU HAVE TO DO?

I swear by the bikini zone gel. I also use it if I notice one of those unsightly hairs has grown up on my neck as I am leaving the house and have to pluck it. Plucking even just one hair will leave my skin red for hours but with bikini zone gel I can leave the house in just a few minutes.

Wow, I’m really intrigued! I want to try it! I’ve got two questions, though. First, does it burn? I’ve had limited experience with these products in the past but from what I recall, the few minutes I endured were pretty uncomfortable. And, how long does it last?

Cita – I’m impressed that you started saving at 16! I don’t think I even knew what laser hair removal WAS then.

Michelle – this stuff doesn’t burn at all! I barely even know it’s there, so I definitely have to set a timer to make sure to remove it in time. As far as how long it lasts: I will let you know. I seem to remember it being at least a couple of weeks, but prior to yesterday’s routine it had, uh, been A WHILE since I did it last.

Yeeeeeaaah, I didn’t make it to the pool too much last year. ;)

Why have I never heard of Bikini Zone gel before?! And why am I hopping in my car right now to try it. Because I need these types of miracles in my life.

Sidenote: this doesn’t work so well for ladies with fair skin and really dark thick hair. (Coughs.) (Not that I would know.) Like shaving, even if it looks nice for a little while afterwards, in about a day, the regrowth is visible – and it looks like someone attacked me with a Sharpie marker down there. I eventually gave up and am waiting for the Big Bag of Gold Fairy to visit my house so I can get laser removal too.
