Secrets of a Perfect Manicure

A few months ago, I shared with you the greatest invention to hit my nails since… well, forever.  Since then, I have added one more item to my perfect manicure repertoire.

In addition to a really awesome topcoat, I have a new must-have:  cuticle oil.

I’ve received a few professional manicures where they sealed the deal with cuticle oil, but I never thought anything of it.

Until after a DIY-mani last week when I was digging through an old coffee table and found this:

Revlon Cuticle Oil Pen

The Revlon Cuticle Oil Pen.

I swiped it over my lackluster polish job (sans Nail Envy!) and noticed that my manicure lasted for nearly 3 days with no dings or chips!

I haven’t been able to find this particular cuticle oil anywhere so I’m assuming it’s been discontinued.  Either way, I’m on the hunt for a replacement.

Have you ever used cuticle oil?  Did it improve the life of your manicure as much as it did mine?  Any cuticle oil recommendations floating around out there?

P.S. I hope everyone reading this had a very Merry Christmas!

I’m curious about this as well. Would love to hear some feedback from those that have used cuticle oil.

I must try this asap! I’m desperate for something that will give me even a day longer out of my dyi mani.

I recently got this one at Target:

I’ve been pleasantly surprised at how much of a difference it has made in my dry and cracked cuticles. My nails look horrible right now and when I remember (!) to brush this stuff on, they look instantly better!

Smith’s Rosebud lip gloss

I swear … this stuff is amazing. Whenever I put it on my lips I smother it on my cuticles too. I don’t do my nails myself, but at the fabulous place I go, they asked me what my secret was and this is it!

I happen to be a nail product junkie and made a discovery from Essie – they have a really good cuticle “pen” that is fabulous for dry cuticles. It is available at Ulta for $5.99. If you don’t have an Ulta in your town, they are also sold at Trade Secret, located in most malls. The great part of this Essie pen is that it is refillable! Professional manicures are not built into our family budget; however, I was given a gift card for a manicure and made a fantabulous discovery . . . they used a cuticle oil from a very large economy-sized bottle. My budget-minded brain began to work overtime and found a similar oil at a wig and beauty supply store in my town. I have also seen the oil at Sally’s Beauty. Every time my Essie pen runs out, I get my “vat” of oil and refill!!
