I have struggled with my hair my whole life.  It is SUPER thick, and has always had wave and body.  As I have gotten older, it has become curlier and frizzy.  Humidity was definitely not my friend people, and I live in the land of humidity.  My hair would take at least 30 minutes to dry with a T3 Tourmaline infused hairdryer (which is designed to help you cut down on dry time).  This was after I had put my hair in a super absorbent towel to take out as much moisture as possible before I started drying it.  I would then section my hair into small pieces and start with the flat iron process.  All in all, I was usually looking at around a 45 minute process from start to finish.  It just wears me out thinking about it.  I would get my hair fairly smooth, go outside and poof!!…it was big, curly and frizzy again.  I ended up wearing it up most of the time because I just couldn’t control it.  I have tried cutting my hair in different shorter styles, but that only made it worse.  I believe that it needs the weight from the longer hair to keep it from getting so big.  I have tried every shampoo, conditioner, lotion, potion and cream under the sun.   I have also tried every hair styling tool made for my type of hair.  I finally figured out that I was just going to have to live with this hair nightmare for the rest of my life.

I then learned of the miracle that would change my hair life forever.  I learned about Keratin hair straightening treatment.  I helped convice my hairdresser that she should start doing this treatment.  It was fate, as other clients inquired at the same time.  I went to my 2 1/2 hour long appointment where the product was applied to my hair a little like haircolor.  It sat on my hair for about 30 minutes, and then my hair was dried with a blow dryer.  The next step was to seal in the product with a special super hot flat iron by going over little strands of sectioned off hair seven times in a row.  The proof is in the pudding…check out my after photo!!!  Squeal with delight!!!

I had to wait 72 hours to wash my hair, and when I did…it was straight and frizz free!!  Hallelujah!!  I can’t believe the difference in the texture of my hair.  I couldn’t stop touching it after I had it done, and my husband couldn’t stop complimenting me on it.  People told me that my hair looked totally different.  My hair is now smooth, shiny and silky looking.  I can wash it, let it air dry and it looks presentable.  I still have to use a flat iron to get it completely straight, but it doesn’t look bad if I don’t use a flat iron.  Before I had this treatment done there was no way that my hair would look presentable without using a flat iron.  It has also significantly cut down on dry time.  The treatment will take out about 85-95% of the curl, and 100% of the frizz.  If you have super curly hair, it softens the curl and takes out the frizz that you often see with super curly hair.  This treatment is supposed to last from 4-6 months, depending on the person.  They also say that you will notice even better results the more times that you have this done to your hair.

The best way to describe what this product does is to imagine a tree branch.  Hair that is curly and frizzy is like a tree branch with lots of nicks in it.  The keratin treatment fills in all of those nicks on the tree branch to end up with a smooth tree branch.  I can understand why the results would be better the more times that you have this done to your hair as you will continue to put more keratin on top of the other keratin that is present.  It should just get more smooth every time.

I’m not going to lie to you.  This is not cheap.  The base price at my salon is $250.00.  She weighs the solution on a scale, and if she has to use more than normal (she had to use more than normal on my hair becuase of the thickness and length) she will charge you by the ounce for the extra product.  Sticker shock, I know.  It is much cheaper than the Japanese straightening, though, and much better for your hair.  I swear that this is worth.every.penny to me!!  I would HIGHLY recommend this treatment to anyone who has hair like I described.  You will not regret it!!  If you are in the Columbia, SC area, call Lisa Graham at Hairquarters {803-608-0777} to make your appointment.

Wow! Your hair looks amazing.

My hair salon owner has been doing this to her hair and I am absolutely amazed at the difference in her hair. She had CURLY hair and it is straight as it can be – but with major body and waves. It is a dream come true hair for her. Body and Soul in Apex NC does it if you live near there.

Keratin treatments are amazing! My own hair has been transformed by them for over a year now.

Next time consider the Brazilian Blowout…no waiting before washing!

I’m squeeling with you! I also live in the South and have thick, wavy/curly hair, so I feel your pain. Your hair looks fabbo and it sounds like that treatment, while a bit pricey, gave you some serious hair bliss! Worth it.

You’re lucky you did not suffer from extensive hair loss from this treatment…it seems to happen to some people. Take a look at this discussion:

And there are many more cases if you google this topic.

Beware, this treatment can cause hair damage and loss to some people.

Just saw in an email from Ulta that they do Keratin treatments in their salons too. May be worth checking out.
