Lacura Mascara Review

Hi everyone!  I’m Trina and I’m one of the newest contributors here at Chic Critique who will be posting every other Tuesday.  If you’d like to check out my regular bloggy abode, this is where I call home.

For my first post at Chic Critique I’m excited to share a review on a mascara I recently tried.

A few months ago I noticed that my local Aldi was carrying makeup and skincare.  I didn’t give it much notice though until a few weeks ago.  My mom and I stopped in for a few things and ended up near the makeup/skincare section.  We started browsing and I picked up the mascara.

It had a really cool tube and was only $3.99.  Since I wasn’t thrilled with the Almay mascara I was using, I purchased it.

I expected big things  from this mascara.  Literally in fact, as I had purchased the volumizing formula.  The Lacura™ Beauty line was “award winning” afterall, so in my mind this had to be the best mascara on the planet.

The first thing I noticed when I opened the tube was that it had a strong smell.  Not a bad smell, but it was strong.

The next thing I noticed as I applied it was that the formula was very wet.

Honestly, I was a tad put off by those two things, but the bristles were nice and seemed to comb easily through my lashes for even application.  So I decided I would try to reapply later that day to see if the formula would flake or was too stiff for reapplication.

As I reapplied I noticed that it was definitely not flaky and the reapplication went on about as well as the first.  No super stiff lashes.  Also, my lashes looked really full and thick.

From Aldi’s website:

Lacura™ Volume Mascara with beeswax and wheat protein gives your lashes maximum volume, making your eyes look larger and more dramatic. Lashes will be optimally conditioned without clumping, remaining full and thick all day long. For irresistible eyes and lashes with the perfect curl.

After reading the product description from the website, I have to say that it does in fact do what it says it will do.  Although I can’t vouch for the “perfect curl” part of the promise since my lashes have a natural curl to them anyway.  I’ve been using it for a few weeks now and the formula hasn’t been clumpy at all.  It does make my lashes appear longer and thicker, thus more dramatic.

My conclusion?  It may not be the best mascara on the planet, but for the $3.99 price tag it may be one of the best mascaras in its price range.  I’m willing to overlook its strong smell and wetness of the formula for a mascara that does what it says without putting a dent in my checkbook.

If you have an Aldi nearby, I think it’s worth a try and if you don’t like it, it certainly won’t set you back much. However, if you are sensitive to smells and/or do not like wet formula mascaras, this mascara is not for you.

I’m going to have to give it a try. I had a similar experience with Aldi. I ran in for a food processor they had on a super low price and noticed they carried makeup. I bought the foundation. I have to say I was impressed for the price. Not a foundation I would wear to go out but definitely one for just hanging around the house or a quick Walmart run.

I’ll be sure to stop by weekly to check out your Tuesday posts.

I tried the Lacura mascara and simply could not get past the smell. My two teen daughters would not even touch it. I suspect that the strong odor is formaldehyde….yuck. All of the skin care has propylene glygol in it…so it’s not for me. If those sort of things don’t bother you, I suppose it’s OK for the price.

Good, honest review, Trina. And your eyes are fabulous!

(GREAT FIRST REVIEW HERE!!!)

I’m pretty pleased with the Loreal Telescopic mascara I just bought, but I may give this one a try since it’s half the price. Can you believe they opened an Aldi like 2 minutes from my house & I still haven’t been in!?!
