Just for fun

in Hair

Every few months I get really bored with my hair. The most obvious fix would be a new haircut, but I like my current length and didn’t want to spend the money for nothing.

So my next choice is color, which I decided to do on Monday. It was a total whim.

(Yes, I’m pregnant. So before I get comments about not dying hair while pregnant, let me assure you I used a non-permanent color wash that lasts maybe a month.)

I realize that not everyone can manage do-it-yourself color. And if you’re blond or using highlights, you probably should pay a professional.

But for us dark-haired gals, you’d be surprised what we can get away with. My aunt goes to a beauty-supply place and gets professional color and applies it herself. I do just fine with a $6 box from the drugstore.

This time I used a medium reddish brown. In my experience, the boxes are always darker than they say. Most often I use a light brown and it turns out very close to my natural medium brown. The reddish hue this time was the whim. (Variety. Spice of life.)

The thing I most like about fresh color is how shiny and conditioned my hair is afterwards.

(And if you’re horrified, don’t worry; it will have faded quite a bit a week from now.)

Just a fun change, and my hubby loves it.

I love it! Us blonds definitely need the extra help a professional offers. Last weekend I got brave and went to Sally’s to get a root touch up kit, chickened out and returned it. lol I’d rather not take the risk. But if I were going darker I would totally do this at home (and I have-it was dark strawberry blond).

I love it. It has an auburn flare to it. I happened to have a great coupon for Natural Instincts and I did mine this past Sunday morning before church. I had no idea it only takes 10 minutes. Another big Plus in my book as time is always a factor when dying my hair. I chose light golden brown. Another Plus is it doesn’t damage my already fragile hair.

Oh that is pretty! I may have to check out what I could do to my dirty dishwater color while I wait for my baby hair to grow out so I’ll feel okay about paying salon prices again. Nice!
