Hot Summer Nail Polish Trends

I’m pretty sure I’ve had nail polish on my toes since I turned 4.   It’s a funny thing, since I seldom wear anything but clear on my fingers but I find it fun to be able to experiment with more fun colors on my piggies.    So, whether you wear it on one or the other or both here’s the scoop on the hottest summer nail polish trends.

1.  Shimmery metallics are the hottest colors to wear on your digits this Summer o’ 2009 according to Glamour Magazine.     Check out these Chanel colors – oh, so very cool.

Brook Shields and Beyonce are looking all glam here in some hard core metallics.

2.  Bright (think neon) colors according to Essie, more from Chanel and Sally Hansen.  This trend seems to carrying over from last Summer.

Here’s Dakota Fanning sporting some green this week while working on her latest movie.   Look closely – it’s there!

Bright Yellow and Lime Green.  Sorbet colored peach.  Bubble gum Pink.   Bright Blue.

Hello 1984, I remember you well.

Fortunately, nail polish has come a long way since I was a teenager.    At that point, there were only a few bright neons to wear on your nails resembling the colors of highlighters pens and I remember the colors being almost matte.     Now they come in bright rich hues in a wide range of colors.

And they’re shine shine shiny.  I like shiny.  In the right spots, of course.

Just look at these fun colors by Sally Hansen for less than $3 a bottle at Walgreens!

I picked up 3 of them this week.    Lime Light Green for my daughter, CelebCity Silver and GunMetal gray for me.   I LOVE the GunMetal Gray!

I really like the neon colors on the younger set.   Honestly, I think you should be living this trend up because it is so fun!!!    Also, I think there does come an age where you should just pass on neon nail polish.   I’m not going to say what that is but I think you know.

3.  Black or very dark colors are still a hot trend right now even in the warmer months.    What was once strictly goth is now the new “conservative” look.   Thank Chanel for this one, too.    I’m really all about this look  – the rock  n’ roll girl in me loves it.

So, what’s on my toes now?  Silver!   I think it will be fun for the summer.   How about you?  What nail trend are you rocking this summer?

This post made me laugh because I HAVE a four-year-old and I’m pretty sure she’ll also have paint on her toes for the rest of her life. Hot pink currently. And she also thinks toes are actually called “piggies.” Like, that’s the scientific name for them.

(I usually just wear clear on my hands, too. But I’m all for louder colors on my feet.)

Pink pink pink. Well, actually, I am pretty boring. Pass the OPI Dutch Tulips, please.

I have a bottle of blue — but I just can’t bring myself to try it. Maybe on my toes. But, I’m such a traditionalist. I don’t know if I can make the plunge. :)

I’m getting A LOT of compliments on the silver, it is very versatile and looks great with a tan!

I actually hadn’t realized that the metallic colors were back! Maybe I’ll try something exciting on the toes. :)
