I’m new here so I’m not sure if this is allowed but I sure do want
to write about Spanx
smooth down your hiney and legs creating a mirage of a perfect tush under your
clothes. It’s like wearing super-thin, comfy, tight long underwear.
My mom bought me some Spanx for Christmas. I’m sure I should have
been offended, but I was happy. Weeks earlier I had watched that
really inspiring episode of Oprah with mompreneures, and the lady who
invented Spanx was featured. Boy did she ever have to fight hard to
get her product out. Basically, she had been cutting the feet out of
her control top pantyhose so she could wear them with sandals but still
not have a panty line.
Well, mom my was very nice and bought me the size A Spanx that is
the smallest size, and they are small to say the least. I mean you
unpack them, and they look like they might fit a 6-month-old. If the 6-month-old was as big around as a can of soup and had legs 18 inches
long. Tiny. I was immediately mad. Plus, I will go ahead and tell
the world that I am 5′ 5" and 125 lbs. on a good day. A really good
day after having the stomach flu. Anyway, that was the top requirement
to fit into these, so they were small, but they made me look really
great. All of my skinny jeans just slid on like butter.
Here is a photo of them so you can see how big they aren’t. I put my sunglasses in for comparison. These are the above the knee kind.
I also purchased another brand called Assets that are sold at
Target. I bought the size 2 where I am in the bottom of the height and
weight requirement. I opened those up… tiny again. But I didn’t let
that get me down; those Assets really do stretch. Once they are on,
they smooth out any spots that need smoothed and make any place that is
loose look firm.
I really like both Spanx and Assets and would reccomend that every
woman have at least something like this in her bag of tricks. They
come in different lengths and colors and are quite comfy. I would not
wear them daily, but when you need to fit into something and wish you
were a few inches smaller, these work wonders. Spanx retail for $20, and Assets are $14.99.

I have been wanting to get some. Do they make any that are the size of gallon of milk vs a can of soup?
I see some spanx in my future. Probably around the end of July.
Oh I love spanx and assets and Hanes and all “gut suckers” as I call them. I wear them ALLLL the time just to make myself feel all nice and “firm” (yes, I’m in denial and I’d like to stay there).
I hear ya on the teenie tininess of them….You swear they’ll never go on….but they do and oh now wonderful they feel!
I am a “Firm” believer in Spanx!! Hehe!!
That might fit my arm…on a good day when I have the flu.
FYI: Assets are made by the Spanx company. They are exactly the same…just packaged differently to sell at Target. I agree, they are amazing!
You just made me laugh so hard I almost went into labor 17 hours early. Yes, the countdown has begun and I am definitely buying some Assets for postpartum…and the rest of my life!
I love the high waisted ones…I think they’re “Higher Power” but still by spanx. They’re great for the post baby belly because they go all they way up to below your bra so the squishy baby tummy doesn’t ooze out the top!
so do they not roll down the muffin top when you sit down?
I wear Assets every day. They have changed my life. I can now wear skirts and dresses most of the time and not feel self-conscious. I feel prettier and more confident. They have the firming and controlling properties of “a good girdle” as my mother used to say, but they are comfortable enough to wear all day long under a pretty sundress in midsummer. The women of the world thank you, Sara Blakely!
Chickadee, My high-waisted Assets, just like the Spanx Higher Power, do not roll down. They stay put and hold me tight all day long. I love them because they work so well, but when you take them off at the end of the day, you do breathe a sigh of comfort.
WOW. Carla, you wear them everyday? What I want to know is, is it kind of like those women in other countries who put rings on their neck and add more and more so eventually their necks are really long and if they took the rings off, they would die? You know, like b/c it stretched their neck so much? Is it like that? Is your body starting to conform? B/c if so, I’m totally wearing them everyday.
Sisters,LOL, how I too wish that they had a permanent effect. They don’t. But it is a fact that you get totally used to them. And then if you’re not wearing them, you miss them. I’m serious. Last summer, I wore a full skirt without Spanx one day and I felt wrong. I wasn’t comfortable. I felt jiggly and my thighs were rubbing together. I put my Spanx on and I was comfortable again. Look, it’s not as if you’re wearing a corset. I know other women who wear them on an everyday basis, and it’s not hard to do and its great because you can start wearing clothes that you’ve stayed away from for years. Try it!

I did try the bra from Spanx and I have to admit I was pretty excited about it. After seeing the whole Human experiement on Racheal Ray, I was determined to get one. So when I did find it at Nordstrom’s, I was thrilled. But my thrill went away fast. When I put it on it felt like a boa was wrapping itself around me. LOL
I have the high ones that come up to your bra, but I find they make a nice ring of back fat between my bra strap and the top of the spanx. I have been very disappointed in them.

I love Spanx, too. I was maid of honor in a wedding just 2 months after Anja was born, and because I tore so much I was only given the OK to exercise a short 2 weeks before the wedding. Spanx saved me from the humiliation of looking as bubbly as I felt.
I love Spanx’s reversible tights in winter, too – black/brown or black/navy, I think. You turn them inside out for the other color.
OK, how about in the late Spring/early Summer when it’s hot, but you’re going somewhere you should wear slacks…I’m sweating just thinking about wearing thermals under my white pants!!
I just got a pair of the hanes version because Macy’s does not sell Spanx but I loved them. I wore them under my cute black dress and they worked great! Since I am pretty short the regular mid-thigh kind came almost up to my bra and hid my muffin top. My husband called them ant pants because he thought they would fit an ant but he loved how confident I felt in them. I didn’t think once about my lumpy thighs the whole night!
Spanx and assets are NOT the same! Spanx are a quality shaper appropriate for good girls to wear to a wedding, formal dance or big party. Assets are cheap control tops whores leave on the floorboard of some guys car, all soiled with the crotch torn out.If the government subsidizes your rent you wear Assets.
